Day 1: Arrive Marrakech and check into your riad

Once you arrive in Marrakech Menara airport, our driver will be there to meet you and drive you to your accommodation in the old Medina of Marrakech.

Day 2: Exploring Marrakech

After breakfast, your guide will arrive to start your walking tour of the Imperial city of Marrakech. You will be visiting some of he prominent sites and learning about the history of this 1000 year old walled city. There are palaces, schools, merchants houses, fountains and gardens as well as the souks and main square of Jemaa el Fna. The Koutoubia mosque can also be visited as well as the Saadian Tombs. Marrakech has many green spaces and you can visit the Majorelle Gardens as part of your tour. Accommodation in the same riad.

Day 3: Day trip to Essaouira

A change of pace today as we take a day trip to visit the coastal medina of Essaouira. This walled city has a history going back to slave trading and pirate ships. It is a medina full of culture, music and art. Wander the streets and enjoy the laid back atmosphere and shopping. Visit the fishing port with its blue boats and lively fish market. Wander along the promenade with its canons and lookout towers. Stroll along the extensive beach and sample the fresh fish and seafood in the plentiful restaurants. In the evening you will be back in Marrakech.

Day 4: Marrakech - Tichka Pass - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah - Dades Valley

After breakfast, we depart from the city to cross the High Atlas Mountains over the Tichka pass. This switchback road passes many Berber villages with their adobe walls and wood ceilings. Further up they are made from local stone. On the far side, we make a detour to visit the Ksar of Ait Benhaddou; a fortress village used in the movie The Gladiator. Since 1962, this has been a favoured film set with famous directors like Martin Scorsese. After a lunch break, we arrive in Ouarzazate and passing through Skoura we enter the Dades Valley. Here you will see many kasbahs in differing states of entirety, a fertile valley where the Damascus rose is grown and harvested for its precious oil. We will drive up into the Dades Gorge and spend the night in a local guesthouse.

Day 5: Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge - Merzouga

Make sure you have your cameras ready today as we make a few stops to show you the unique features in this gorge and as we drive up into the next valley and into Todra Gorge. Millions of years of erosion and movement have created spectacular natural features. As we continue our journey, you will begin to notice the palm groves and landscapes that herald the arrival of the Sahara region. In the distance the outline of the dunes will become visible and soon you will arrive in Merzouga and a welcome glass of tea at your hotel.

Day 6: Merzouga the desert area

Today, a desert adventure to discover the different ways of living and places of interest. There are oases, mines, rock art, nomadic families and of course the beautiful golden sand dunes. We will visit the village of Khamlia to listen to a Gnawa music performance and perhaps travel to Rissani for the local traditional Berber Pizza for lunch. In the afternoon, we return to the hotel to prepare for your evening. The camels will take you across the dunes to your camp as the sun sets behind the dunes giving way to the millions of stars.

Day 7: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Azrou - Fes

An early start is recommended to witness the new day as the sun rises and casts wonderful shadows and colours across the dunes. We return by camel to the hotel and enjoy breakfast and perhaps a shower to freshen up. The landscapes are very diverse today from the desert to gorges, mountains, rivers and lakes, great forests and alpine towns. As we travel up to Fes, you will see nomadic people living in tents, monkeys swinging in the great cedar trees and the slopping roofs of the towns of Ifrane and Azrou. In the evening we arrive in the mediaeval medina of Fes.

Day 8: Exploring Fes

Your local Fes Guide will come to your hotel and you will start your tour to explore this Imperial city, it will include a driving tour to visit the gates of the royal palace, the mellah and a panoramic viewpoint of the medina. The rest will be a walking tour to visit the most interesting and important sites around the medina as well as the souks and artisan workshops. In the evening you return to your accommodation.

Day 9: Fes – Meknes – Rabat

Three of the four Imperial cities are Fes, Meknes and Rabat, today you will visit the remaining two. We depart from Fes after breakfast and travel to Meknes to visit this once busy city. Its magnificent gate of Bab Mansour, crenelated walls, granary and Kings stables can all be seen. There is also the great basin which supplied water. We turn west then to reach the capital city of rabat on the Atlantic seaboard. Here we can visit the mausoleum, Oudayya Kasbah, Hassan Tower and perhaps one of the gardens. You will spend the night here in Rabat.

Day 10: Departure

Today is the last day of your tour with us. Airport departure as arranged.
