Your driver guide will be at the airport in Casablanca to meet you and welcome you to Morocco to start your 16 day Morocco tour. Depending on your arrival time, it may be possible to do a guided tour of the Hassan II Mosque before departing for the capital city of Rabat where you will be taken to your accommodation. In the afternoon we can visit some of the sights in Rabat.

We follow the Atlantic coastline passing through Sale, Larache and stopping to visit the pretty medina of Asilah where we can enjoy a seafood lunch. Asilah has an annual festival where international artists come and paint huge murals; many can be seen as you wander the small streets. We drive inland to reach the medina of Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains. Overnight in a traditional local Hotel or Riad.

Today you have the whole day to explore this Blue city with its narrow streets, stairways and tiny shops. Discover its history rooted in Spanish and Jewish inhabitants, sample the local dishes, visit the workshops and galleries, chill out in the square and pose for those amazing photos. In the evening, when the sun goes down, head for the square to enjoy the ambience and have your dinner.

After breakfast, we depart from this amazing blue medina and travel south through green woodlands and pastureland following the river. You may notice how different the buildings are in this region and the traditional dress that the women wear. We will stop to visit the 2nd century Roman ruins at Volubilis; this is an extensive site and yet there is still planning to undergo more excavation. The mosaics, columns and entrance gateway are amazing and well worth the visit. Next stop is the Imperial city of Meknes; it has impressive medina walls and Bab Mansour gate along with the royal granaries, stables and more. We then arrive in the mediaeval medina of Fes; the spiritual and educational centre of Morocco. Overnight in a typical riad.

Your city guide will come to your hotel in the morning and you will start your guided tour of Fes to include a visit to see the gleaming gates of the royal palace, the Mellah, the Borj, where you see a panoramic view of the medina, workshops of ceramic and zellij artisans. There are many fountains, schools, hammams, bakeries, and mosques in Fes; you will be taken to visit a selection of them as well as many artisan workshops in the heart of the medina. Overnight in the same riad.

Today, we leave Fes and travel south to the Sahara. The terrain is ever changing when you travel in Morocco, the giant cedar forests of Ifrane National Park are home to the Barbary ape and you will have a chance to see them in their natural habitat. Nomads living in the forests and pasturelands can be seen, rivers, lakes and mountains as well as remote rural villages and the vast palm groves of the Ziz Valley. The town of Erfoud is the mineral and fossil capital and here you can visit a workshop and showroom to see the work involved. The Sahara dunes appear on the horizon and the landscape opens out to a vast rocky vista as you continue south to reach the desert town of Merzouga. Overnight in a typical kasbah hotel.

After breakfast, you will begin your desert discovery day, learning about local lifestyles and culture and visiting places of interest; Khamlia village is home to some amazing musicians and you can watch their performance of Gnawa Music. Rissani is the last market town before the desert and has a colourful souk to explore. In the afternoon, you will meet your camel team and pack up to prepare for the sunset ride into the dunes to your nomadic or luxury camp. Dinner is prepared onsite and music played around the campfire as the stars appear in their millions above you.

This tour is all about unforgettable experiences and a desert sunrise is one of those; one of the team can wake you in time to get up and climb the nearest dune to watch the new day arrive. You will then ride back to the hotel for breakfast and time to freshen up before departing for the day’s adventure. Morocco has some incredible natural features and today you will visit two spectacular gorges; each one totally unique. Todgha Gorge is a 300 metre high gorge created by the river that flows through it; a haven for international rock climbers and nature lovers. Dades Gorge has unusual rock formations and ancient kasbahs which make for interesting photography. Overnight in Dades Gorge in a typical guesthouse.

After breakfast, we will explore this gorge a little more before returning to the valley below. The Dades River feeds this valley and its gardens. Hidden among the fields of fruit trees and crops are the remains of many kasbahs, they call this the route of a thousand kasbahs; see how many you can spot. This is also home to the Damascus rose, grown here as hedges around the fields of wheat and harvested in May, the roses are distilled to produce the fragrant rose oil and other products. We leave the valley of roses and continue to Skoura; an extensive and ancient palm grove with more hidden kasbahs. Next stop is the Hollywood of Africa; Ouarzazate. This is the cinema capital of Morocco and location of many sets, movies and several film studios. Overnight in Ouarzazate.

In the morning, we can visit the Taourirt Kasbah and the film studios if you wish. 16 km outside of Ouarzazate, we come to the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou on the caravan route where salt is mined and transported to Timbuktu. This adobe fortress was used in some notable films and is a favourite of Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese; The Gladiator and Prince of Persia are more recent films that were shot here. We follow the Anti Atlas Mountains west to reach the medina of Taroudant passing many rural Berber villages. Overnight in Taroudant.

After breakfast, we visit the medina and then continue west to reach the Atlantic coast and the city of Agadir. In 1962, it was devastated by an earthquake and all that remains of the original city is to be found up on the hill; the remaining walls of the medina. Now, this modern city has an extensive beach and promenade welcoming many seasonal tourists. We follow the coast through Argan forests where you may see goats climbing in the trees in search of the fruits. We will visit one of the cooperatives that process the argan nuts to produce the amazing argan oil. Once we reach the coastal medina of Essaouira, we will stop and this will be home for the next two nights.

Today you have the day free to explore this charming medina, its extensive beach is a haven for watersports including surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing, camel and horse rides as well as quad biking. Wander the narrow streets and discover the many art galleries, the markets, the jewellery souk, seafood restaurants and gentle laid back atmosphere. Visit the fishing port where fishermen are selling their catch fresh off the boats. Walk along the fortified promenade with its Spanish cannons and discover the Portuguese buildings in the square. This medina has a long history of slave trading, pirates and invasions and its gnawa music is a testament to that history; an annual festival of world music takes place each June and attracts many great musicians.

After a relaxed morning, we depart for the Red City of Marrakech and its 1000 year old medina. You will have the evening free to discover the main square of Jemaa el Fna and the night will be spent in a typical riad in the old medina.

After breakfast, you will meet your city guide and start your walking tour of this historical medina. It has 19km of walls dating back 1000 years, its monuments were first built by the Almoravids, mostly destroyed by the Almohads except for the Qubba which is undergoing restoration along with the Ben Youssef Medrasa. There are palaces, gardens, hammams, bakeries and fountains, mosques, schools too, as well as the Saadian Tombs. At every turn you can see the intricate artisan work in ceramic, plaster and wood as well as metal and leather. You can also take a driving tour out to visit the famous Majorelle Gardens and the new cities. Overnight in the same riad.
